The use of water-based down-the-hole hammer drilling is a relatively new, cost-efficient technique. This technology has been used for the first time in India to make a water curtain system in an unlined cavern for the Vizag underground crude oil storage cavern project.
Geology plays an important role in the success or failure of a core-drilling program. Many times, due to lack of geological information, the designed drilling system and operational parameters do not fulfill the desired objective, resulting in various geological and geotechnical problems. With proper understanding of the geology of the area under investigation, however, these problems can be avoided and minimized.
