DFI Educational Trust Accepting Scholarship Applications for Students Pursuing a Career in Deep Foundations

The Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) Educational Trust, the charitable arm of DFI, is accepting online applications April 1–May 15, for the Trust’s At-Large Scholarship program, Michael L. Condon Civil Engineering Scholarship Fund and Goble Rausche Likins Scholarship Fund.

At-Large Scholarships
Several At-Large Scholarships ranging from $1,000 – $5,000 each are being awarded in 2025. They can be used for funding tuition, fees, books and or educational living expenses. Applicants must be enrolled full time in a U.S. college or university; be pursuing a graduate or undergraduate degree in an accredited civil, geotechnical engineering or related deep foundations curriculum or an undergraduate degree in construction management; have a minimum 3.0 GPA; and demonstrate an interest in the deep foundations industry and financial need.
Condon Scholarships
Three $4,000 scholarships from the Michael L. Condon Civil Engineering Scholarship Fund are being awarded in 2025. Established in 2015, the fund honors the late Michael "Mike" Condon, co-founder of Condon-Johnson & Associates, for his contributions to the deep foundations industry. The fund provides scholarship awards to deserving students enrolled full time in an undergraduate or graduate civil engineering program and who are interested in pursuing a career in the deep foundations industry. The scholarships are available to students attending Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal Poly Pomona, San Diego State University, Santa Clara University, University of California, Davis, Oregon State University, Washington State University, Montana Tech, University of Colorado Boulder and Virginia Tech.
Goble Rausche Likins Scholarship
Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded from the Goble Rausche Likins Scholarship Fund this year. Established in October 2020 with a generous donation from GRL Engineers and Pile Dynamics (PDI), the fund honors George G. Goble, Frank Rausche and Garland E. Likins, the founders of GRL and PDI. The fund provides at-large scholarships to full-time undergraduate or graduate civil engineering, electrical engineering and computer science students attending any accredited U.S. college or university, and who demonstrate prior employment, co-op or intern experience with a civil engineering application.

Applications Also Being Accepted for DFI’s Women in Deep Foundations Professional Development Grants - Submission Deadline May 15
On top of that, The DFI Educational Trust, through the DFI Women in Deep Foundations Committee, is awarding 11 Women in Deep Foundations (WiDF) Professional Development Grants of $1,750 each to women involved in design or construction of deep foundations. Applications are being accepted online April 1– May 15. Click on the link for eligibility requirements, submission criteria and the application.
Recipients are invited to attend DFI’s 50th Annual Conference on Deep Foundations in Nashville, Tennessee, October 20-23 . The grant defrays travel and related expenses for attending the conference. In addition, the recipients receive free conference registration and are recognized during the WiDF Committee’s networking reception on Monday, October 20.
“The WiDF Committee has seen a continual increase in applications for this grant in recent years,” says Emma Migneault of Worldsensing and chair of the WiDF Committee. “To increase the number of scholarships available for 2025, the committee organized a fundraising campaign at the annual conference last year. The DFI community rose to the occasion, with very generous donations to provide 11 full professional development grants from corporate sponsors.”
The corporate sponsors that made the grants possible are Bauer Foundation and Bauer Foundations Canada, Berkel & Company Contractors, Equipment Corporation America, Green Infrastructure Partners, Malcolm Drilling, Nicholson Construction, Nucor Skyline, Pile Dynamics Inc., Tarra Engineering and Structural Consultants, TEI Rock Drills, and Universal Engineering Sciences.
The DFI Women in Deep Foundations Committee is comprised of women and men who are advocates for supporting and retaining women working in any capacity in the deep foundations industry. The goal is to foster greater success and interest of professional women in the industry by promoting networking events, endorsing outreach and building mentoring relationships.
