New resources aim to help companies align with UN Sustainable Development Goals
The Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) is partnering with the European Federation of Foundation Contractors (EFFC) to develop a series of sustainability guides aimed at helping geotechnical companies adopt more environmentally responsible practices. These guides offer practical recommendations rather than industry standards, providing companies with voluntary strategies to contribute to the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which member nations have pledged to achieve by 2030.
- The first guide in the series, the EFFC/DFI Carbon Reduction Guide, addresses SDG 13: Climate Action and SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy. It focuses on ways companies can lower their carbon footprint within the geotechnical sector.
- The second resource, the EFFC/DFI Circular Economy Guide, supports SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production by offering strategies to reduce waste and promote material reuse.
“These guides are a great example of the synergy that comes from finding common ground,” said Matthew Glisson, P.E., DFI director of technical activities. “Through our relationship with EFFC, we can leverage the experiences of our European colleagues and provide valuable guidance to the industry in North America and elsewhere, where sustainable practices and related legislation are still developing. At the same time, our international connections help EFFC learn from other regions to support their members as well.”
Both guides are available for free download via the DFI Publications Store.
