The International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) continues to drive the adoption of ground source heat pump (GSHP) technology, serving as the vital link between the latest industry advancements and the communities that benefit from them. As a non-profit, member-driven organization, IGSHPA is committed to promoting geothermal heating and cooling as the cleanest, most efficient, and sustainable solution for a decarbonized future.
Founded in 1987, IGSHPA has played a pivotal role in advancing GSHP technology at local, national, and international levels. The association fosters industry collaboration, provides educational resources, and promotes awareness of geothermal energy’s role in reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy efficiency.
IGSHPA 2025 Annual Conference starts today in Champaign, Illinois, marking a new chapter for the organization’s premier event. For this year’s conference, IGSHPA is proud to partner with the Geothermal Alliance of Illinois (GAOI) to engage more state and provincial associations. By choosing a Midwest location and a more focused venue, IGSHPA aims to create a more engaging and impactful experience for attendees.
As the premier conference for the GSHP industry, IGSHPA’s annual event is a multifaceted experience focused on professional development, training, education, and business growth. With eight topic tracks and more than 50 workshops, participants will hear from industry experts and peers from the U.S., Canada, and around the world.
A key highlight of the conference is a full-day track on Thermal Energy Networks, sponsored by Mission Geo, which will take place on Wednesday.
These sessions will offer valuable insights into:
New technology and innovations
Lessons learned and best practices
Policies and incentives
Industry trends tailored for both seasoned professionals and newcomers
Workshop Highlight:
What? Mission Geo: Transforming Perspectives on Ground Source Heat Pumps
When? Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at 1:15 – 2:15 PM
Who? Eric A. Torykian, Executive Director, Mission Geo.
This session will provide a transformative look at ground source heat pump technology and its potential to revolutionize sustainable heating and cooling solutions.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the conference is the opportunity to network and exchange knowledge with industry peers. The event will feature:
An awards dinner, where Mike Richter, president of Brightcore Energy, will deliver a keynote address and outstanding projects will be recognized
A panel discussion with representatives from ground source heat pump manufacturers
Over 40 exhibitors available to connect with attendees
Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in three tours at the University of Illinois, including two ground source heat pump installation sites and a visit to The Energy Farm, a 320-acre living laboratory for field research and production.
Beyond the conference, IGSHPA is committed to expanding training and professional development opportunities in 2025. This summer, the organization will roll out new and revamped training programs, including:
Certified Residential Geothermal Designer Training
Commercial Designer Training
Developed with input from industry experts, these programs reflect the latest advancements in GSHP technology and industry best practices. More information can be found here.
