The Biden-Harris Administration recently announced over $3 billion in grants for 25 projects across 14 states. The selected projects, once fully contracted, are projected to support over 8,000 construction jobs and more than 4,000 operating jobs. This initiative is part of the Administration's Investing in America agenda, which aims to strengthen domestic energy supply chains and support the clean energy transition.

The grants, administered by the Department of Energy's Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains (MESC), will retrofit, expand, and build new domestic facilities for battery-grade processed critical minerals, battery components, battery manufacturing, and recycling. The selected projects span strategic segments across the supply chain, including the extraction and recycling of critical minerals like lithium, graphite, and manganese, and the manufacture of essential battery components.

Eagle Mine to Play Key Role in $145 Million REV Nickel Project

One of the projects selected for award negotiations is the REV Nickel Project, a collaborative effort between Revex Technologies and Eagle Mine, owned and operated by Lundin Mining. The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded Revex Technologies a $145 million grant for this initiative, which aims to produce nickel concentrate and other critical minerals from metal-bearing waste streams.

The REV Nickel Project aligns with Eagle Mine's commitment to sustainability and secures its future as a leading source of U.S.-produced critical minerals. As part of this initiative, Eagle Mine and Revex Technologies will collaborate on the construction and operation of three facilities in Marquette County. The project is expected to add approximately 115 new jobs, retain 425 jobs at Eagle Mine, and support 360 construction jobs over the 2-year construction period.

The success of the REV Nickel Project will be instrumental in extending the life of Eagle Mine. This project allows us to continue contributing to the national effort to secure critical minerals while advancing sustainable mining practices through the recovery of valuable resources from waste streams," said a spokesperson for Eagle Mine.

With projects like the REV Nickel initiative at Eagle Mine, the current administration is taking a crucial step towards establishing a sustainable domestic battery supply chain.
