The NY-GEO 2024 Conference, set to take place from October 21-23 at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge, is shaping up to be an unmissable event for professionals in the geothermal heat pump industry.

This year marks the first time the conference will be held in New York City's downstate area, with a focus on tackling the unique challenges of implementing geothermal systems in densely populated regions and large commercial buildings. While we at The Driller had a wonderful time at the Albany event earlier this year, our 'No Sleep Till Brooklyn' newscast really encapsulates how excited we've been for this upcoming event. To share in our anticipation, below is a rundown of the highlights of this upcoming October event to get your blood—and geothermal heat pumps—pumping!

Keynote Speakers and Highlights

The conference will feature an impressive lineup of keynote speakers, including Doreen M. Harris, President and CEO of NYSERDA, who will kick off the event with a plenary session on Day 1. Following her, Sadie McKeown, President of the Community Preservation Corp., will deliver the keynote at the NY-GEO Annual Dinner.

On Day 2, attendees can look forward to insights from Matthew Ketschke, President of Con Edison of New York, who will lead the morning plenary session. The speaker list, along with the sessions and exhibitors list, may change as time goes on so be sure to check the draft program regularly online!

Special Programs and Sessions

Brooklyn's NY-GEO 2024 will offer a variety of special programs designed to provide attendees with the latest industry knowledge and practical skills. Key programs include:

  • Geothermal 101: A foundational session for those new to the industry.
  • 2024 GeoStar Top Job: Showcasing top projects in the geothermal field.
  • Geothermal Drilling in Urban Environments: Focused on the complexities and solutions for drilling in cityscapes.
  • The Math of a Formation Thermal Response Test: A technical deep dive into geothermal performance metrics.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in the "European Experience with Geothermal" session, where they can learn about advancements and practices from across the Atlantic.

Focus on Policy, Programs, and Large-Scale Projects

The conference will offer nine sessions dedicated to policy and program updates, including discussions on NYS Utility and NYSERDA incentives, IRA implementation, and the potential impact of Cap & Invest programs on the geothermal heat pump market.

For those involved in large-scale projects, the conference will delve into topics such as financing large commercial projects, geothermal opportunities on brownfield sites, and the specific challenges of implementing geothermal systems in high-rise buildings.

Pre-Event and Networking Opportunities

Before the conference officially begins, attendees can participate in NYC geothermal site visits on October 21, offering a firsthand look at some of the city's most exciting geothermal projects. Throughout the event, there will be numerous opportunities to network with exhibitors and fellow attendees, including breaks, lunches, and a cocktail hour.

Lastly, don’t miss out on the early bird registration, which ends on August 30, 2024. The early bird registration has been extended for a limited time, so you don't want to risk losing out on this significant opportunity to network, learn, and expand your geothermal projects at a discounted rate.

All in all, NY-GEO 2024 promises to be an informative and dynamic gathering, offering attendees valuable insights, networking opportunities, and practical knowledge. We look forward to seeing you all there!
