This week, Ryan asks about whether cable-tool has a place in a modern, 21^st-century drilling industry. Other, faster methods came along, so we should just discard the old ones, right? It’s Ask Brock 232. 

“I’ve said this before, but all the big companies still have old-school, cable-tool rigs for swabbing and brushing and surging,” Yordy says. “There’s not a better way to develop a screen — in shallow formations obviously.” 

Yordy also recommends seeking out knowledge from veteran cable-tool operators, so we can preserve and perpetuate these skills for the next generation.
