Port Orange, Florida-based Thompson Pump and Manufacturing Company has been named a 2020 Cigna Well-Being Award recipient for its efforts in creating a healthy place to work and do business.

Cigna honor Thompson Pump with the organization’s top tier award level, saying Thompson deserved recognition as “Outstanding Culture of Well-Being” in North Florida due to the company’s exceptional efforts in the nationwide comparison. Cigna evaluates applicants based on the core components of their wellness program, including leadership engagement, company culture, strategy and goals, implementation, and employee engagement. Applications are scored and reviewed by a panel of Cigna Health promotion experts.

In a release, Thompson Pump says over the past seven years it found ways to focus on the health and wellbeing of employees, and that it improves and adds activities each year. In 2020, Thompson Pump’s wellness committee — a team of cross-functional members who rotate annually — looked for ways to engage the employees during the pandemic. That included hosted activities and challenges that employees could do from home, like virtual stretching and yoga, as well as walking challenges and other similar activities.

Thompson — family owned since 1970 — manufactures a variety of pumps ranging in size from two to 18 inches and with capacities up to 14,000 gpm.
