Equipment manufacturer Epiroc has been selected to equip South Africa’s Black Rock Mine with its Mobilaris Mining Intelligence (MMI) system.
“Epiroc will support Black Rock’s business improvement processes with the MMI solution,” says Andrew Main, regional business line manager for the Underground Rock Excavation division for Southern Africa, Epiroc South Africa (Pty) Ltd. “The globally acclaimed Situational Awareness together with Short Interval Control package will take their operations to the next level of performance gains.”
Black Rock Mine is part of Assmang Proprietary Ltd South Africa. This will be the first MMI installation in a mine utilizing room and pillar.
In a release, Epiroc says the MMI system provides a 3D real-time information model for the position of machines, vehicles and personnel, but also presents other vital information sources like shift planning, machine and production data.
“MMI will help to increase production and utilization. The solution enables an unprecedented opportunity for mining personnel to make right decisions faster than ever before”, says Pierre Becker, general manager at Black Rock Mine.
Epiroc says the MMI will turn Black Rock Mine’s control room into a source of real-time production data fully integrated with planning, task dispatch, machine telemetry data, mobile operator clients and a layer of analytics to collect and monitor insights and KPI’s for the mine production. It says the project, when fully installed and operational by June 2019, is expected to yield significant improvements in employee safety, process efficiency and overall production.
Epiroc serves customers in the mining, infrastructure and natural resources industries in more than 150 countries. It develops and produces drill rigs, rock excavation and construction equipment, and also offers services and consumables. For more information, visit www.epiroc.us.
