Vermeer has launched the D20x22 S3 Navigator HDD. The new horizontal directional drill model brings more power and productivity to the Navigator HDD line.
It is designed for contractors who need a more efficient machine with a small footprint for working in tight jobsites.
“Compared to its predecessor, the D16x20 Series II, Vermeer added power and improved precision control for those customers who work mainly in fiber/telecom and gas service installation,” said Jon Kuyers, global product manager for underground business at Vermeer.
The 74-horsepower, 55 kW Deutz engine is capable of 12 percent greater power than the D16x20 Series II. The S3 model features 19,550 pounds of thrust/pullback with 2,250 pounds-feet of torque.
Its new hydraulic design with enhanced rotation, thrust and tracking performance increases system efficiency and drill productivity.
The D20x22 S3 features a faster carriage speed, which increases the amount of product installed per minute. Vermeer says the 167 feet-per-minute exceeds other models in its class.
Tracking power and speed have also improved so that making sharper turns and climbing slopes is easier. It can travel between jobsites faster than previous models, with the ability to track up to 3.3 mph.
All new S3 models are Tier 4 Final (Stage IV) emission compliant in North America and Europe. Units sold in less regulated countries will have Tier 4 Interim engines.
The D20x22 S3 is now available through the Vermeer global dealer network.
