Seth L. Pearlman, P.E., D.GE, M.ASCE, president and CEO of Menard USA, has been selected by the American Society of Civil Engineers to receive the 2014 Henry L. Michel Award for Industry Advancement of Research. Pearlman will be presented with the award at the OPAL Gala on March 20 in Arlington, Va.

The Henry L. Michel Award for Industry Advancement of Research recognizes dedication, vision and leadership in advancing research in the design and construction industry. The Michel Award was established in 1996 to honor Henry L. Michel, past chairman of the board of directors of the Civil Engineering Research Foundation.
According to the video ASCE created for the OPAL Gala, “Pearlman is a translational researcher – a professional who combines research sense with a desire to see technology applied and proven. Pearlman’s career speaks as a testament to advancing research within the industry.”

Dr. Priscilla P. Nelson of the New Jersey Institute of Technology, a past recipient of the award, was one of the people who nominated Pearlman. She says, “Seth is a champion of research. Not only does he promote extensive field testing of Menard technologies, but his company also conducts extensive private research with a third-party consulting firm and sponsors academic research with several universities in the U.S. and France.”

Pearlman has more than 30 years of experience in the geotechnical industry. He earned a BS and an MS in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and is a registered professional engineer in Pennsylvania and Virginia. He is a member of the Geo-Institute, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), American Concrete Institute (ACI), American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE), Design Build Institute of America (DBIA), past president of the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI), Engineers Society of Western Pennsylvania (ESWP) and The Moles. He serves on an advisory council to the Carnegie Mellon University Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
