The Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) recently named new committee chairs for four of the group’s 16 technical committees.

The DFI’s technical committees focus on issues specific to major methods and technologies within the deep foundations and excavation sectors. Committees work to keep DFI members and the industry current on best practices through publications, guidance documents, peer review of papers, educational events and committee reports in the group’s magazine, Deep Foundations.

New committee chairs include:
  • Clayton Signor, vice president of TX Pile LLC, replaces Tom Nichols of Geothermal International as the head of the Driven Pile Committee. Signor joined TX Pile in 2007 as a project manager. He has a master’s degree in construction management from Vanderbilt University and a master’s degree in geotechnical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
  • Marine Lasne, corporate sustainability manager of Soletanche Freyssinet in France, assumes the lead of the Sustainability Committee from Tony Suckline of Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering. Lasne coordinates the Soletanche Freyssinet Group’s sustainability strategy. In 2011, she was leader of a task force that developed the European Carbon Calculator, a project supported by the EFFC and DFI. She has a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in environmental management and engineering.
  • Don Robertson, P.E., Applied Foundation Testing, will lead the Testing and Evaluation Committee. He takes over from Dr. Edward Hajduk of the University of Massachusetts. Robertson co-founded Applied Foundation Testing in 1997. The company specializes in load test programs throughout North America and the Caribbean. Robertson is a graduate of Florida State University and previously worked as an engineer at the Florida Department of Transportation.
  • Ed Laczynski, P.E., geotechnical construction services manager for G.A. & F.C. Wagman succeeds Dr. Terry Holman of Geosyntec on the Tiebacks and Soil Nailing Committee. Laczynski has a breadth of experience in the design and construction of excavation support systems, permanent walls, micropile foundations and other ground anchoring systems. Laczynski performs “in house” work for heavy highway and building companies at Wagman, and manages the company’s work as a foundation and specialty geotechnical subcontractor. Laczynski has degrees from Virginia Tech and George Washington University.
