Boart Longyear Acquires Westrod Engineering
Boart Longyear LTD has acquired Westrod Engineering, a Western
Australia-based manufacturer of reverse circulation (RC) rods, subs and swivels
for minerals drilling. The acquisition expands Boart Longyear’s existing
minerals exploration product offering, and complements the recent acquisition of
KWL, a Perth-based RC and multi-purpose drill rig manufacturer.
The addition of Westrod Engineering’s product line positions Boart Longyear as the only company able to manufacture and distribute RC drill rigs and consumables, while also offering contract RC drilling services on a global scale. The acquisition increases Boart Longyear’s revenues by approximately $7 million.
“As part of our strategic growth plan, the Westrod Engineering acquisition positions us to significantly increase our presence in RC drilling,” says Craig Kipp, Boart Longyear president and COO. “We anticipate increasing production output and have plans for global distribution of these products as we continue the growth of our RC business.”
