Brayman Construction Corp., headquartered outside of Pittsburgh, Pa., provided a diverse range of products and services for the fast-track SR-28 project in Etna, Pa. Brayman is a full-service provider of general and specialty geotechnical design/build solutions throughout the eastern United States. The photo shown depicts the firm’s installation of 225 permanent rock anchors for the $2.2 million retaining wall project. The rock anchors were drilled using conventional crawler-mounted rigs and hanging-platform rigs.

While the main focus of the work was on the installation of 225 permanent rock anchors, mainline wall rock anchors were installed working multiple rigs and multiple shifts, including Saturdays and Sundays, in order to meet the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s scheduled completion date. As part of the temporary support bridge, Brayman installed 56 95⁄8-inch-diameter micropiles. The firm also performed temporary excavation support consisting of soil nailing and driven beams with wood lagging.
